How it works

You can be trash or incredible at chess.
Played online with an in-person option.
Seasons last 2 months at a time with 4-week offseasons.
Games only against near-skill opponents.
Ability to skip seasons and come back where you left off.
3 entry points per year for new players to sign up: March, September, & December.
30 minute timers with no increment.
2 games a week. Flexible 1-week windows to play each round.

When

Division play runs 3 times a year. These are 10-player divisions with promotion/relegation at the end of each season:
- Fall 2026: Oct 8–Dec 9
- Winter 2027: Jan 7–Mar 10
- Spring 2027: Apr 8–Jun 9

The 2027 Funk Cup will run from July 8th – September 17th.
- These will be straight double elimination brackets based on prior divisions.
- All players play a minimum of 2 rounds.
- 12 players per bracket.
- Must have played in at least 1 of the preceding Fall, Winter, or Spring seasons to enter.

This is an Olympia-focused group. Players must:
- Live in Thurston County, or;
- Have recently played at a Hi-Five Thursday event, or;
- Have been invited by a player that lives in Thurston County.
- We will verify eligibility if you are a new player.
